He was 85. He is survived by five sons, and large number of admirers in the state.
A K Subbaiah, known for his no nonsense views, was a staunch BJP man turned its a bitter critic of the saffron party later. He had served as four-time member of the Karnataka Legislative Council and had contributed immensely to take the Saffron BJP to root in Karnataka.
Subbaiah, who hails from the hilly Kodagu district, was a 'nightmare' to the Congress government led by Gundu Rao during 1983-85 and had exposed several scams including that of Rolex watch against C M Ibrahim, a member of Rao's cabinet, which led to the resignation of the minister.
A reputed votary with substance with every work he spoke, Subbaiah had unsuccessfully formed his own party 'Kannada Naadu' had also joined Congress and the JD(S), before fading away in the state politics.(UNI)
