Army pays tributes to martyr L/N Sandeep Singh

Srinagar: Senior Army, police and paramilitary officers were among personnel from various security agencies to pay their last respect to Lance Naik Sandeep Singh, who was martyred in an encounter with infiltrators in Tandghar sector on September 22.
Five infiltrators were also killed. However, so far, bodies of only four militants have been recovered.A defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said Army paid befitting tribute to Late L/N Sandeep Singh who made the supreme sacrifice during Counter Infiltration operation on September 22 2018 in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara District. 
 
In a solemn ceremony at headquarters of 15 Corps in Badami Bagh Cantonment, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation.
 
Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and representatives from various security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyr. 
 
He said L/N Singh sustained bullet injuries during the fierce operation in Tangdhar sector in which five militants were eliminated. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.The martyr (30) had joined the Army in 2007. He belonged to Village Kotla Khurd of Gurdaspur District of Punjab and is survived by his wife.
 
The mortal remains of the martyr were flown for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family of the martyr and remains committed to their dignity and well being.Defence sources said L/N Singh was part of the troops who carried out surgical strike against Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 2016.(UNI)
