Guwahati: Stating that Jihadi modules are active in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Sarma on Thursday said that all sources informing about Jihadi modules are peaceful Muslim citizens.
Lauding the efforts of majority Muslims who are peace loving Sarma said that the recent jihadi modules could be busted after information received from peaceful Muslim citizens.
Addressing a press conference regarding the recent jihadi modules busted by Assam Police, Sarma said that all sources who provided information regarding such modules are peaceful Muslim citizens.
He said, “Hindus cannot provide such information because they cannot go to the villages were such modules exist.”
He urged all the citizens of Assam to keep a vigil and inform to the police if any suspected activities are noticed.
Assam has become a hotbed of “jihadi activities” with five modules having links with Bangladesh-based terror outfit Ansarul Islam busted in last five months, Sarma said.
He stressed that somehow all the modules are linked with Madrassas, therefore he requested that if any suspected Imam preaches jihad, the matter should be reported to police.
Indoctrination of Muslim youths in private madrasas by Imams from outside the state is alarming, he said.
"Jihadi activity is very different from terrorist or insurgency activities. It starts with indoctrination for several years, followed by active participation in promoting Islamic fundamentalism, and finally going for subversive activities,” the CM said. (UNI)
