A shocking crime has emerged from Bengaluru, where a 21-year-old B.Tech student allegedly raped his senior inside their college campus located under the Hanumanthanagar police limits. The accused, identified as Jeevan Gowda, was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

What Happened

According to the police, both the accused and the victim studied at the same engineering college. They were friends, but the accused became her junior after failing a year. On October 10, between 1:30 p.m. and 1:50 p.m., Gowda allegedly lured the victim to the seventh floor of the college building under the pretext of meeting her, forcibly dragged her into a washroom, and sexually assaulted her.

The victim initially confided in her friends, who advised her to inform her parents. Her parents then lodged a complaint with the police on October 15, following which Gowda was arrested.

Investigation Details

Police said that on the day of the incident, the victim had met Gowda to collect some belongings. Later, he called her multiple times, asking her to come upstairs. When she did, he allegedly tried to kiss her. As she attempted to leave using the lift, he followed her to the sixth floor, where he overpowered her and committed the crime.

During the assault, the accused also snatched her phone when it rang. Shockingly, after the incident, Gowda reportedly called the victim and asked if she needed pills.

The police have recorded the victim’s statement and are collecting further evidence. The case has been registered under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for rape.

Political Response

The incident has sparked widespread outrage. Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka has written to the National Commission for Women (NCW), urging immediate intervention over the rising number of sexual assault cases in Karnataka.

He stated that in the last four months, the state has recorded 979 cases of sexual assault against girls, including over 114 cases in Bengaluru alone. “Our women and children are living in fear,” Ashoka said, calling for urgent action to improve safety and law enforcement in educational institutions and public spaces.
