The police initially refused to lodge the complaint but took action only after the woman and her parents found two of the men who assaulted her and dragged them to the police station. The Madhya Pradesh government then suspended five police officers and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered that the trial be conducted in a fast-track court.
