Bihar's 4th bridge collapses in 10 days, this time in Kishanganj district

Kishanganj (Bihar): In yet another incident of bridge collapse, one constructed 11 years back, collapsed at Shrawan Chowk near Bansbari village in Kishanganj district of Bihar.
 
According to reports, the 70-metre-long bridge built under Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojana in 2011 at the cost of Rs 25 lakh, collapsed late evening on Wednesday at Shrawan Chowk near Bansbari village under Bahadurganj block of Kishanganj.
 
Traffic on bridge had been stopped completely after its one pillar collapsed damaging the bridge partially, informed Shrawan Sahni, Executive Engineer of Rural Works Department.
 
"We have also informed the higher authorities of the department," Sahni said adding that strict vigil was being maintained to prevent any vehicle or person attempting to cross the bridge through collapsed passage.
 
Meanwhile, Circle Officer (CO) Ashish Kumar said that torrential rains led to the collapse of bridge which was already in dilapidated condition. The bridge was already in need of repair, he stressed.


 
On June 18 in Araria district a 183-metre-long bridge built at the cost of Rs 12 crore also collapsed.
 
Similarly, a small bridge on canal of Gandak river had collapsed on June 22 in Siwan district.
On June 23, an under construction bridge collapsed in East Champaran district of Bihar.
