Pune: Further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab is likely to be slow, the IMD reiterated on Friday.
It reasoned that the large scale features are not favourable and the forecast wind pattern by the numerical models do not indicate any favourable condition for sustained rainfall over the region.
Day temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5°C) at isolated places over Kerala and Mahe; above normal (1.6°C to 3°C) at many places over coastal Karnataka; at a few places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim and south interior Karnataka; at isolated places over Saurashtra and Kutch and West Rajasthan.
They were markedly below normal (-5.1°C or less) at many places over Vidarbha; at a few places over east Madhya Pradesh; at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh and west Madhya Pradesh; appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5°C) at most places over Chhattisgarh; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Telangana; at isolated places over Andaman, Nicobar Islands, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal; below normal (-1.6°C to -3°C) at most places over Gujarat Region; at a few places over east Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh and near normal over rest parts of the country.
The highest maximum temperature of 43.4°C was reported at Churu (west Rajasthan).
Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today) at a few places over east Uttar Pradesh; at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, west Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tripura, and Saurashtra and Kutch.
The monsoon has been active over east Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh while it has subdued over west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and south interior Karnataka.
Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in Arunachal Pradesh, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka and Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at many places in Assam and Meghalaya, Jharkhand, east Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, west Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat region and north interior Karnataka and at a few places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Punjab, east Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep and at isolated places in west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Jammu-Kasmir and Ladakh, west Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch, Marathwada, Rayalseema, Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Kerala.(UNI)
