Congress workers demand Rahul Gandhi as president at rally against price rise

New Delhi: Demands for making Rahul Gandhi the Congress president surfaced once again at the party's rally against price rise where workers displayed posters demanding him to take the top party post again.
Top Congress leaders and hundreds of party workers gathered at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Sunday for a rally against price rise. Rahul Gandhi, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, former Union minister Kamal Nath, Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and other top leaders of the party are present at the rally.
Congress workers in the audience raised posters reading: "We want Rahul Gandhi as INC President."
Party's leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, in his address, also referred to the posters.
"We can see the posters 'want Rahul Gandhi as president'..." said Chowdhury.
The rally comes ahead of the nationwide 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' of the Congress which will be started from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, on September 6.
Some Congress workers tried to hold a march from Banga Bhawan to Congress headquarters, but were detained by the Delhi police.
Earlier on August 5, Congress leaders had held a protest against price rise. Several party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, were detained outside Congress headquarters and Parliament as they staged a protest against inflation. (UNI)
