New Delhi: Amid the spurt in Novel Coronavirus cases, both the Centre and the state governments on Sunday decided to impose a complete lockdown in 75 districts throughout the country.

However, essential and medical services have been exempted.

The decision was taken at a high level meeting, attended by Chief Secretaries of all the States, the Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary, with the Prime Minister.

“The state governments were advised to issue appropriate orders to allow only essential services to operate in the 75 districts, which have reported confirmed cases or casualties relating to COVID-19,” an official statement said here.

The government has also suspended all the passenger trains, metro services and interstate bus services across the country, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call of ‘Janta Curfew,’ which received overwhelming and spontaneous response from the public.

The Maharashtra government has imposed Section 144 in the entire state, in a bid to stop people movement in groups.

So far, India has recorded 341 positive cases of COVID-19. The death toll has reached six. (UNI)
