New Delhi: A day after taking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over state of economy, unemployment and ‘tarnishing India’s image’, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a fresh attack on BJP-led government over falling GDP and rise in inflation.

“Modi and his dream team of economic advisors have literally turned the economy around. Earlier: GDP: 7.5 per cent, Inflation: 3.5 per cent. Now: GDP: 3.5 per cent, Inflation: 7.5 per cent”, Mr Gandhi tweeted.

Inflation: 3.5%

He further said that the Prime Minister and Finance Minister have ‘absolutely no idea’ what to do next on economy.

The former Congress president’s remarks comes days before the General Budget, which will be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1.

Mr Gandhi, on Tuesday, had accused Modi government of tarnishing India’s image and economic crisis in the country.

“The reputation and image that India had in the world was that it is a country of brotherhood, love and unity, while Pakistan was known for hatred and divisiveness. This image of India has been damaged by Narendra Modi,” Mr Gandhi had said while he addressed ‘Yuva Aakrosh’ rally in Jaipur.

He had also said, in UPA’s time, the growth rate was 9 per cent. Modi government has slowed the growth rate by changing the calculation system.

“As per that system, the growth rate is 5 per cent. If it is calculated by the system prevailing during UPA, it is 2.5 per cent. It is shameful,” the Congress leader had said. (UNI)
