Deep depression to remain static till evening, TN to get heavy rains for 2 days

Chennai: Heavy rains continue to lash Chennai, central and southern districts of Tamil Nadu, 
as Cyclonic storm 'Burevi', which has weakened into a Deep depression, remained practically stationary during the past six hours near Ramanathapuram.
Talking to reporters on Friday, Mr S Balachandran, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Chennai,said the system would remain static till this evening.
 
Later, it would weaken into a depression and further become as a well-marked low pressure and move towards the South Kerala coast.
 
He said under its influence widespread and heavyrains would continue in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry,with heavy rains in Cuddalore, Ramanathapuram,Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur, with a wind speed of about 40 to 50 kmph. 
 
He said several interior districts and Northerndistricts would also receive heavy to very rains 
during the next 48 hours.
 
Mr Balachandran said extremely heavy rainfall were reported in 11 places, very heavy rains in 50 areas and heavy rains in 20 places across the State.Kollidam received a maximum of 36 cm of rains during the last 24 hrs, followed by Cuddalore (34 cm).
 
As the rains would continue, fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea for the next two days.(UNI)
