New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to probe into hoarding of Covid-19 medicines and how BJP MP Gautam Gambhir procured and distributed Covid treatment drug Fabiflu in large quantity.

A division bench of Justices Vipin Singh and Jasmeet Sanghi was hearing a plea against Gambhir and AAP MLAs Preeti Tomar and Praveen Kumar for allegedly hoarding medicines during the pandemic.

''Though his (Gambhir's) intention may have been correct, he has done a disservice by buying medicines in bulk, when there is short supply,'' the bench observed.

"Whatever investigation is done, let the drug controller look into it. He [Gambhir] has been a national player. We are sure he had good intentions. But the way he has gone about it, he has actually done a disservice, even if unintentionally," Bar & Bench quoted the court as saying.

"Law must take its course.. it is only to deal with such situations. Intentions may be lacking but in that process if they cross the line, law has to take its course. Even with best intention, they are malpractices...We have narrowed down to three - Gautam Gambhir, Preeti Tomar and Praveen Kumar," it said.

The drug controller has been asked to submit the status report within a week. (UNI)
