New Delhi: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken on Thursday morning visited the house of the three sisters who died of starvation in the national capital’s Mandavali area and met the bereaved parents.

Such an incident raises questions and clearly shows how the overall system has failed, as the sisters died due to malnutrition and starvation that too in the national capital, said Mr Maken.

Expressing grief over the matter, the DPCC chief said that such a painful incident happening that too in the national capital was very sad and disheartening and raised a lot of questions as the family was residing in Delhi for around four years.

Mr Maken further said that despite being here for such a long time the family did not have a ration card, further saying that how could the elder daughter who went to school died of malnutrition and starvation despite mid-day meals being provided in the school.

Mr Maken questioned the status of employment and availability of jobs in the country wherein a father could not work and provide basic nutrition to his children.

Taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party, Mr Maken said where was the Aam Aadmi canteen promised by the AAP wherein poor would get a meal for Rs 10.

He said the incident was painful which showed failure of the system as neither the government clinic nor the mid-day meal could save the children.

Mr Maken said that such was the condition of Delhi’s Deputy CM’s constituency. “Imagine what would be the everyday challenges faced by people living in other areas,” added Mr Maken.

The parents of the deceased expressed their pain to the people who met them saying that hunger and poverty was the worst thing.

The mother of the deceased sisters also looked weak and ill.

“We had earlier warned the Delhi government that such incident could occur as around nine lakh eligible families still did not get ration cards who had applied for them already.

Death of the sisters aged eight, four and two was due to malnutrition and starvation, as per the doctor’s opinion.

Delhi government has ordered a magisterial probe into the matter. (UNI)
