New Delhi: The 'Yuva Hunkar Rally' by Gujarat MLA and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, aimed at raising issues like social justice, unemployment and atrocities against Dalits and release of Bhim Army's founder Chandrashekhar Azad, today began to a dull response at Delhi's Parliament Street.
The rally began here this afternoon, amid heavy security deployment, in the presence of Mr Mevani, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader Akhil, Swaraj India Delhi chief Anupam, student leaders Shehla Rashid, Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid, and others. The rally, however, evoked a dull response with barely 400 people attending it.Addressing the rally, Umar Khalid asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to answer the youth on his promises related to development and employment.
"Modi ji you should answer on the promises made by you on development and employment. We are fighting for our rights, we don't want hatred. Give youths employment and education," Mr Khalid said.At the venue of the rally, various supporters were also seen holding placards demanding withdrawal of FIR against Mr Mevani and Mr Khalid, which was registered for allegedly delivering provocative speeches at an event in Maharashtra recently.
Earlier, all the leaders including Mr Mevani converged at the Parliament Street despite not getting permission from the Delhi Police. The Delhi Police had said that the permission was not granted for the rally in view of NGT orders and the organisers were advised to go to an alternate site, which they refused to accept.(UNI)
