Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday detained Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut in connection with a money laundering case after hours of conducting searches at his residence.
The ED had earlier issued two summons to Sanjay Raut to appear before it for inquiry in this matter. However, Raut failed to appear on both occasions saying that he was busy with the monsoon session of Parliament.
In a surprised move, the ED officials reached Sanjay Raut's house at 7 am on Sunday morning. Sources said that ED officials are likely to take Sanjay Raut to their office for questioning and further action can be taken against him.
ED officials arrived at the house of Sanjay Raut in Mumbai this morning under the security of CRPF.
According to preliminary information, the ED team entered the Maitri bungalow of Sanjay Raut at 7 am. Sources said that the ED officials are expected to seize several incriminating documents from Raut's residence.
Raut was asked by the ED to attend the inquiry a few days ago. But as Raut was in Delhi, he did not attend the ED office. He had approached the ED through his lawyers on Wednesday and sought time till August 7 to attend the inquiry. But the ED rejected his request and issued fresh summons to him.
After this Raut was asked to attend the ED office on July 27. But once again Sanjay Raut failed to show up for the inquiry. (Inputs from UNI)
