Days after a Mumbai doctor shockingly found a human finger in an ice cream cone, police made a major breakthrough in the case.

In the latest development, the Mumbai police have found that a staff at the Pune factory of Yummo ice cream suffered a finger injury in an accident. The investigation has found that the ice cream in which the piece of finger was found was packed on the day the accident occurred. The police suspect that the finger in the ice cream belongs to this staff, say sources.

Police have sent samples for DNA test, and the authorities are currently awaiting the report.

On 12 June, Brendan Ferrao, a 26-year-old resident of Malad, ordered three ice cream cones through an online delivery platform.

“I had ordered three cone ice creams from an app. One of them was a butterscotch ice cream of Yummo brand. After eating half of it, I felt a solid piece in my mouth. I thought it could be a nut or a chocolate piece, but when I spat it out to check what it was. I was traumatized to discover that it was a piece of thumb with nail. So, I preserved the portion in ice and approached the police,” Ferrao had said in a video statement.
Following a police complaint, a case was filed against Yummo under charges of food adulteration and endangering human life.

The Food Safety Standards of India (FSSAI) has suspended the licence of the manufacturer that supplies ice cream to Yummo.
