Govt unveils agenda for special Parliament session, discussion to be held on 75 years of Parliamentary journey

New Delhi: The Modi government has finally unveiled the agenda for the five-day special session of Parliament starting September 18.
In a late evening development on Wednesday, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha published the agenda for the special five-day session which includes a discussion on "Parliamentary journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha - Achievements, Experiences, Memories and Learnings."
"Members are informed that on 18th September, 2023, besides other formal business like laying of papers etc., a Discussion will be held on the subject “Parliamentary Journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha – Achievements, Experiences, Memories and Learnings," said the Lok Sabha bulletin.
The bulletin listed four bills including the controversial Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (appointments, conditions of service and term of office) bill for its passage.
The other bills proposwd to be taken up are The Advocates (Amendment Bill 2023), The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill 2023, and The Post Office Bill 2023.
As per Rajya Sabha bulletin, legislative business includes the passage of the Repealing and Amending Bill 2023, The Post Office Bill 2023, and The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (appointments, conditions of service and term of office) Bill 2023.
Soon after the government unveiled its agenda, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on X, "Finally, after pressure from Smt. Sonia Gandhi's letter to the Prime Minister, the Modi Govt has condescended to announce the agenda for the special 5-day session of Parliament beginning September 18th."
He further said that the agenda as published at the moment, is much ado about nothing — all this could have waited till Winter session in November.
"I am sure the legislative grenades are being kept up their sleeves to be unleashed at the last moment as usual. Parde ke peeche kuch aur hai! Regardless, the INDIA parties will steadfastly oppose the insidious CEC Bill, Ramesh wrote. (UNI)
