High alert sounded in Mumbai over possible terror attack by Khalistanis

Mumbai: A high alert has been announced in the commercial capital of the country due to possibility Khalistani elements carrying out an attack in the city, officials said here on Friday.
The police sources said here on Friday that security has been beefed up at all prominent places across the city, including railway stations.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has given inputs about a possible attack on the city on the eve of the New Year putting the Mumbai Police on high alert which has also deployed additional police forces at all prominent places across the city.
The authorities have cancelled pre-approved leave and also weekly office for police personnel for December 31 over security concerns in the city. The decision was taken after an alert was received from central agencies over Khalistani elements planning to target Mumbai on New Year's eve.
Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) is already in place in Mumbai, in view of the rise in the number of COVID cases across the state.
In addition to this, the police order prohibits all New Year celebrations, programmes, functions and gatherings in any closed or open space, including hotels, restaurants, banquet halls, bars, pubs, orchestras, resorts, clubs and rooftops, sources added. (UNI)
