IMD issues orange & yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across India

New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued orange and yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall over many parts of India including western and South Peninsular for the next five days.
 
According to IMD, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Gujarat & Rajasthan today and over Coastal Andra Pradesh & Telangana during the next 2 days and decrease thereafter.”

The weather department also predicted the formation of a low-pressure area over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by on Thursday as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood in lower & middle tropospheric levels.

“The monsoon trough is active and its western end is near its normal position and eastern end is south of its normal position at mean sea level. It is likely to continue so for next 2-3 days,” the IMD said.

“Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Chhattisgarh during the next 7 days and over West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra & Kutch during 04th -06th; Vidarbha on 04th & 10th; Konkan & Goa during 04th -08th; ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during 06th – 08th; Gujarat Region during 04th -08th September,” it said.

“Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka during 04th -08th; South Interior Karnataka during 04th – 07th; Kerala & Mahe during 08th -10th September,” the IMD added.

Northeast and Northwest parts of the country are also expected to witness heavy rainfall for the next few days.

“Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during the next 7 days; Arunachal Pradesh during 04th – 06th; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 04th & 05th; Bihar on 05th & 06th; Odisha during 04th – 08th September,” the IMD said.

“Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Uttarakhand, Rajasthan during 04th – 08th; Himachal Pradesh, Haryana on 04th; West Uttar Pradesh on 04th & 05th; East Uttar Pradesh during 04th – 06th September,” it said.

The moderate rainfall has been continuing over parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region since last night. The weather department predicted cloudy sky and moderate to heavy rain with thundershowers for the next five days.
