Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will teach engineering in Hindi from the new academic session, officials said here on Thursday.

In the initial phase, first year engineering students will have the facility to choose the option of studying in Hindi. This will be expanded later in the coming years.

BHU will be the first institute in the country to offer engineering option in Hindi.

Professor Pramod Kumar Jain, Director of IIT BHU and Chairman of Official Language Committee, has confirmed the introduction of engineering in Hindi here on Thursday.

He said that in the new education policy, there is a provision to make the medium of teaching in the mother tongue. Under this, BHU Engineering is going to start first year education in Hindi medium.

Professor Jain said that the use of regional languages ??will help expand engineering.

The institute has almost completed all the preparation for introducing this medium of instruction. A list of experts who will teach engineering in Hindi has been prepared. There is an option to call experts from outside also to teach in Hindi as per the requirement. BHU is also arranging books for Hindi courses.

Engineering in Hindi will not be compulsory but optional. Students who want to do engineering in Hindi will be taught in Hindi only. First year students will now be able to choose Hindi language along with English.

It is worth mentioning that under the new education policy, the central government last year had kept the option of starting teaching in Hindi at IIT. BHU had initiated efforts to implement this plan since then, but due to the COVID pandemic, it could not be implemented.

Now the institute has decided to implement the scheme and new B-Tech course in Hindi will be started soon at IIT BHU in Hindi. (UNI)
