With reports coming in that the union government won't take steps for the return of 4 Keralite women who went with their better half to join terror outfit ISIS but ended up behind bars, One of the family has expressed disappointment over the government's decision.

The mother of 30-year-old Nimisha (Fathima), an Islamic State (IS) supporter who is currently lodged in a jail in Kabul after leaving for Syria along with her husband and their child, has been urging to the Centre to bring back her daughter for a long time. Ms Nimisha was lodged in a jail in Kabul along with other Indian widows who left the country to fight for IS.

Nimisha and her husband fled to Syria to join the Islamic State when she was pregnant in 2016. Earlier, Bindu Sampath had alleged that her daughter was converted to Islam as part of 'love jihad' and left Kerala under the pretext of going to Sri Lanka for religious studies. But now it looks like it is an end of the road for her as govt looks least interested in her deportation.

Bindu stated that she worries for her granddaughter. She only wants his daughter to return and she can face trials in India rather than in Afghanistan.

Whereas the four Malayali women namely Sonia Sebastian alias Aiyesha, Nimisha alias Fathima and Merrin Jacob alias Mariyum and Rafela fled the country between 2016-18 to join ISIS. However, after they became widow they didn't have any option but to surrender before the Afghanistan government in 2019.

Recently on 27th April 2021, The Afghanistan government informed that 408 ISIS fighters from 13 countries were in their custody which included 4 women from Kerala. As per the agency sources, there was a lack of consensus. Had the widows arrived in India they could have become approvers of the case but they were highly radicalised so Afghan authorities were given the responsibility of trial.

It was reported that NIA visited Afghanistan and questioned ISIS widows. Later the Indian government decided not to take them back.

In one of the famous video documentary, the women wished to come back to India. The husbands of the foursome who were the ISIS terrorists Rashid, Bestin, Bexon and Ijas were neutralized in Afghanistan.(WD)
