Indian Navy’s aircraft IL-38 makes an emergency landing in Russia

New Delhi: An Indian Navy aircraft, IL-38, made an emergency landing at the Zhukovsky airport outside Moscow in Russia due to technical snag late on Saturday night. The aircraft is in Russia for overhaul and mid-life upgradation. During sortie, Indian Naval crew was not onboard, sources in the Indian Navy said.
However, the Indian Navy crew was present in Russia. The damage is being ascertained, the sources added. Built on the IL-18 platform, the IL-38 is a long haul aircraft equipped with a navigation system of Doppler and radio navigation tools and an automated target search and track system capable of spotting surface ships and submarines.
