Jaitley, Armed Forces' Chiefs pay tributes to Kargil martyrs

New Delhi: Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today paid floral tributes to soldiers who lost their lives during the Kargil War in 1999 at Amar Jawan Jyoti here. Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Indian Air Force Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba also paid homage to the martyrs. Wreath laying ceremony was also held to pay tribute to soldiers at Jammu and Kashmir's Dras War Memorial.
On this day in 1999, the Indian Army successfully took control of posts and bunkers in extremely difficult and treacherous high altitude and glaciated terrain across the Himalayas in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, after fighting for 60 days. (UNI)
