Srinagar: Five terrorists were killed, and two security personnel injured in an encounter that erupted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said.
A police officer said five bodies have been observed at the site of the encounter, and the operation is still underway.
The encounter broke out during a cordon-and-search operation in the Kader area of Kulgam during a cordon and a search operation.
The army said that based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint operation was launched by the army and Jammu and Kashmir police at Kader Behibagh.
“Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops, and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volume of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress,” Srinagar-based Army’s Chinar Corps said.
