Kargil Vijay Diwas: PM pays rich tributes to India's fallen soldiers

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid rich tributes to the soldiers who lost their lives defending India during the 1999 war in Kargil.
"The bravery of the soldiers motivates us every single day," the prime minister tweeted as he remembered the brave sacrifices of the soldiers on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
 
Modi also shared an excerpt from last year's Mann Ki Baat - a monthly radio programme addressed by him on the last Sunday of every month.
 
According to the Indian Army officials, President Ram Nath Kovind will lay a wreath at the Baramulla War Memorial in north Kashmir.
 
The Kargil War was fought between India and Pakistan from May to July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC).July 26 is observed as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' to commemorate India's victory.
 
President Kovind’s Kargil visit cancelled due to bad weather

President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit to Kargil in the Union Territory of Ladakh to pay homage to the Indian armed forces in Drass on the 22nd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Divas on Monday has been cancelled due to bad weather, official sources said.
 
Kovind, who arrived here on a four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Sunday, was scheduled to travel to Kargil on Monday today to pay homage at Kargil War Memorial built in the memory of soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 war.
 
On this day Indian soldiers declared victory in recapturing all heights which were occupied by Pakistan intruders during the winter.In 2019 also, the president could not travel to Kargil due to bad weather.(UNI)
