In a shocking incident, a murder convict in Shivamogga district prison in Karnataka swallowed a mobile phone to escape from the regular prison checks by the officials. He carried the phone for almost 20 days inside his stomach.
Doctors performed surgery to remove the mobile phone when the inmate complained of a severe stomach pain.
On March 28, 38-year-old Parashuram complained of stomach pain. He was first taken to the prison hospital and then rushed to McGann Teaching District Hospital.
Parashuram told the doctors that he had swallowed a stone sometime ago. Then, the doctors reported “stomach pain due to consumption of a foreign body (stone)” and treated him.
However, his condition deteriorated on April 1. Then, he was shifted to the Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru on April 6. The doctors found an electronic gadget inside his stomach in the ultrasound scan, and decided to conduct the surgery for the removal of the gadget.
After a 75-minute critical surgery, a Chinese mobile phone was removed from his pylorus at the beginning of the small intestine.
A case has been filed against Parashuram for possessing a mobile phone while in prison.
