Arvind Kejriwal gets one year extension as AAP chief

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has got a one-year extension as convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and will now continue to hold the post till April 23, 2020.The extension for Mr Kejriwal was given on Saturday at the seventh meeting of the national council of the party without any need to amend the party constitution.
Mr Kejriwal's second term as AAP convener was coming to an end in April next year and there had been 'some suspense' over who would be leading the party when it would be fighting the 2019 Parliamentary polls and the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections.AAP's constitution bars a third consecutive term for any office bearer.
 
Mr Kejriwal was first elected as national convener of AAP in 2013 and was re-elected by the party's national council in April 2016.According to AAP national secratory Pankaj Gupta Saturday's meeting also decided to fight LS polls in Punjab, Haryana,Chhattisgarh and Goa, besides Delhi.(UNI)
