New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday said the Pakistan Government has allowed the mother and wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav, Indian national who has been convicted and sentenced to death for espionage and aiding terrorism in Pakistan. In a series of tweets, Ms Swaraj said that she had informed Mr Jadhav’s wife and mother about the permission given by Islamabad and its willingness to give visa to both of them.

According to Pakistan Foreign Office, the visit of Mr Jadhav’s mother and wife could take place on December 25."I have spoken to Mrs Avantika Jadhav mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav and informed her about this,’’ the Minister said in one of her tweets.Earlier, Pakistan had agreed to give visa only to Mr Jadhav’s wife. "On this we asked Pakistan to give visa to the mother as well. We also raised concern about their safety and security in Pakistan. We had also asked that a diplomatic officer of Indian High Commission should accompany them while they are in Pakistan,’’ Ms Swaraj said.

India had appealed to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against execution of Mr Jadhav and in May the ICJ stayed it till India’s appeal is adjudicated by it. India has reacted sharply against the arrest of Mr Jadhav reportedly from Balochistan in March last year. India has maintained that Mr. Jadhav, a former Navy officer, who has business interests in Iran was kidnapped from there and taken to Pakistan. Despite a number of requests for consular access by India, Pakistan has repeatedly turned them down summarily.(UNI)
