Lakhimpur Kheri: Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni's son, Ashish Mishra was remanded to police custody for three days by a local court here on Monday in connection with Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
Though the Special Investigation Team (SIT) sought 15-day remand, but special magistrate Chinta Ram allowed only three-day police custody with certain conditions.
Mishra's lawyer told the court that the police remand was not required as SIT had already interrogated his client for 12 hours on Saturday and if needed they could interrogate him in the jail.
The lawyer said this was a high profile case and the life of Ashish Mishra would be in danger outside the jail. He also said that though SIT gave 40 written questions, but they asked more than 1000 questions on Saturday.
The public prosecutor said that the 15-day remand was required for further investigation in the case as on Saturday during first interrogation, the accused did not cooperate with the probe team.
Mishra's lawyer opposed it saying that his client had fully cooperated with the SIT during interrogation.
Ashish was arrested on Saturday night after 12 hours of interrogation.
Ashish has been accused of crushing 4 farmers under his car during the violence at Tikonia area of Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3.
The virtual hearing was disrupted for some time due to internet glitches. (UNI)
