Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister and government spokesman Narottam Mishra clarified that only about 14 people were aboard the Maharashtra Roadways bus – that plunged on Monday morning into the raging waters of the Narmada River on the Dhar-Khargone district border – and nobody survived.

Earlier, Dr Mishra himself told journalists in the state capital that about 12 fatalities had occurred and 15 individuals were rescued.

“The confusion was triggered by the fact that persons were observed running away from the river immediately after the tragedy and it was erroneously assumed that they had been saved. Some of the deceased have been identified as residents of Rajasthan and Maharashtra. The driver apparently swerved to avoid ramming a motorcycle,” the Minister said. (UNI)
