Manipur violence: Army says situation under control; state-bound trains cancelled for 48 hours

The Indian Army on Friday said that the situation was now under control in violence-hit Manipur. Meanwhile, the North East Frontier Railways has suspended all train operations through the state for the next 48 hours.

“Situation brought under control through coordinated actions by all stakeholders. IAF undertook continuous sorties from two airfields in Assam employing C17 Globemaster & AN 32 aircrafts, the Spear Corps,” Indian Army tweeted.

Induction commenced on night of 4 May & additional columns commenced domination with effect from wee hours of 5 May 23. Domination & evacuation of civilians of all communities from affected areas continued throughout the night. Flag march in CC'Pur& other sensitive areas underway

Manipur erupted into a deadly clash on Wednesday after All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) organized a protest rally against the Court order of Manipur High Court which gave direction to Manipur government to take a decision on the demand of Meitei to include Meitei in ST list.

Large number of houses were burnt at Bishenpur, Moreh, Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur districts. There was massive protest throughout the state as reports of alleged rape of women came from Churachandpur district. (Inputs from Agencies)
