Milind Teltumbde among 26 Maoists killed in Gadchiroli encounter

Gadchiroli/Nagpur:High ranking Maoist leader Milind Teltumbde was among the 26 Naxals gunned down in an encounter with police in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, a senior police official confirmed on Sunday.

In a major encounter Gadchiroli police succeeded in eliminating at least 26 Naxalites.While the Gadchiroli police was conducting anti- Naxals operations, Naxalites started firing at them.

Fully prepared for possibility of such encounter, police retaliated and succeeded in eliminating 26 outlaws.During a search after the encounter, Milind Teltumbde, a senior leader of a Naxal dalam was among the dead.

An elusive Milind Teltumbde was born and brought up at Rajur in Wani takuka of Yavatmal district.The 57-year-old was among the youngest Central Committee Members of Communist Party of India. He was also looking after urban affairs.

His elimation in encounter comes as a very big achievement for Gadchiroli police.The search operation was undertaken following information about movement of Naxalites received by Gadchiroli police.

Four police personnel were also injured in the action and they were air-lifted to Nagpur for treatment, from Gyarapatti-Kotgul forest area of Dhanora Taluka in Gadchiroli district.
The encounter started in the morning of Saturday and ended at around 4 pm same day.

Police have also seized a large quantity of arms.Meanwhile, State Home Minister, Dilip Walse Patil lauded the police action against Maoists in Gyarapatti forest. "I am proud of our police ", he said.(UNI)
