Monsoon Update: SW Monsoon likely to advance into parts of North India by July 10

Pune: With the moist easterly winds from Bay of Bengal likely to spread into northwest India covering Punjab and north Haryana by July 10, the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into remaining parts of west Uttar Pradesh, some more stretches of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi on that day, said the Indian Meteorological Department here today. 

The Southwest Monsoon was weak over Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, west Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana.

Day temperatures were markedly above normal appreciably (5.1 degree Celsius to more) at isolated places of west Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.

They were appreciably above par (3.1 degree C to 5.0 degree C) at most corners of Marathwada, along with many sectors of Punjab, east Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Maharashtra, at a few locales of west Uttar Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch, Andaman & Nicobar Islands as well at isolated slices of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

They were above norm (3.1 degree C to 5.0 degree C) at many terrains of east Rajasthan, Gujarat Region, Konkan, Goa, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Telangana, Kerala and Mahe, along with a few sections of Assam, Meghalaya, west Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Bihar, coastal and north Interior Karnataka as well at isolated sites of Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, south Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Day temperatures were below par (minus 1.6 degree C to minus 3.0 degree C) at many tracts of Rayalaseema, and a few spots of Chhattisgarh while they were near normal over the rest of the country.

The highest maximum temperature of 42.7 degree C was reported at Fatehgarh (west Uttar Pradesh).

Thunderstorm had occurred at isolated quarters over Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim, east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Konkan, Goa, coastal Andhra Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, west Rajasthan, Kerala, Lakshadweep, north & south Interior Karnataka during past 24 hours.

Rain or thundershowers had pounded most zones in Arunachal Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, north Interior Karnataka, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep during the period.

They had battered many divisions in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and south Interior Karnataka during the period.

They had lashed a few locations in Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan, Goa, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalseema and Kerala during the period.

Isolated niches in Odisha, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu also received rain during the period.

Dry weather prevailed over west Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Saurashtra and Kutch during the period. (UNI)
