Raising the issue in the House, the Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar today said that Maharashtra Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister should protest against Karnataka government’s statement that Mumbai is a part of Karnataka.
Hitting back Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy for his statement that Mumbai qualifies to be a Union Territory considering the cosmopolitan population and contributions of people of other states, Fadnavis said Mumbai belongs to Maharashtra alone and it is not a property of anybody’s father.
The State Home minister further added that this issue will be conveyed to the union home minister.
Pertinently, Madhuswamy recently said that around 20 per cent Kannada and Konkani speaking people reside in Mumbai, which was never a part of Maharashtra before its formation.
Such being the case, Mumbai not Belagavi, qualifies to become a Union Territory (UT), Madhuswamy had said. (UNI)
