New Delhi: Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu met his party's general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra here on Wednesday."Had a long meeting with @priyankagandhi Ji," Mr Sidhu tweeted.
Though the two leaders have not disclosed the purpose of the meeting, but according to sources, Mr Sidhu wanted to discuss the internal issues in Punjab unit of Congress and upcoming Assembly polls in his state.

Mr Sindhu came to Delhi on Tuesday and was slated to meet former Congress president Rahul Gandhi. However, no such meeting took place.

Mr Sidhu and veteran Congress leader and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh have become hostile towards each other, particularly after the local bodies portfolio was taken away from Mr Sidhu by Capt Amarinder in 2019.

The cricketer-turned-politician has been critical towards the chief minister and often flayed him for allegedly failing to solve the 2015 sacrilege issue.

On the other hand, Capt Amarinder has said Mr Sidhu's behaviour was totally intolerable.

With the Punjab Assembly polls nearing, the party high command wants to resolve the hostility between the two leaders and put a common and acceptable face to lead the polls.

Mr Sidhu has been earlier called to New Delhi to appear before a three-member committee while Capt Amarinder to a panel headed senior Congressman Mallikarjun Kharge.

Meanwhile, Shiromoni Akali Dal has broken its ties with Bharatiya Janata Dal over new farm laws and has formed an alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party to woo Dalit votes which is over 32 per cent in Punjab.

On Tuesday, Aam Aadmi Party, which will be contesting the polls alone, announced free electricity till 300 units if voted to power.(UNI)
