NHRC team may talk to family members of slain accused in Hyderabad rape-murder case

Hyderabad: A seven-member National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team who flew down here from New Delhi on Saturday were likely to meet the family members of the four accused in the recent gang-rape and murder of a young veterinarian Disha, on Sunday.

The NHRC team members, now in Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy near Hyderabad, may also quiz the two policemen injured in the “encounter”. The injured policemen were in a city hospital undergoing treatment.

The four accused had been gunned down in an “encounter” with police in Chattanpalli on Friday following which the NHRC had ordered an investigation taking suo motu cognizance of media reports about the incident.

The NHRC team had already examined the bodies kept at Mahabubnagar general hospital in the presence of forensic doctors and also collected information from them.

The NHRC team headed by Senior Superintendent of police Manzil Saini also visited the encounter spot at Chattanpalli besides National Highway No.44 yesterday.

The state policemen accompanying the NHRC team briefed the latter about the circumstances which led to the exchange of fire with the four accused.

The team members also examined the culvert where the charred body of Disha was found.

The Shadnagar police had already booked a case in connection with the exchange of fire leading to the death of the four accused in the barbaric crime which angered the entire country.

The case was registered based on a complaint from Shadnagar ACP under section 307 (attempt to murder), 176 Cr. PC (custodial death) and Indian Arms Act.

Meanwhile, the family members of Disha had questioned the NHRC’s response to the “encounter” asking whether the Human Rights of their daughter did not matter.

Communist Party of India National Secretary Dr K Narayana on Sunday tendered a public apology for welcoming the “encounter” on Friday and withdrew his earlier statement.

He said his Senior Party colleagues too did not approve his statement. (UNI)
