Islamic preacher Zakir Naik booked for Inciting terror

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet on Thursday against controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik in Mumbai for his alleged role in terror funding and money laundering cases in the country, said an NIA official here on Wednesday. As per the sources, he has beeen booked for hate speeches, inciting terror and terror funding.
As per the source in NIA, all official processes to file the chargesheet against Naik was completed and subsequently submitted before a special court. Zakir Naik had fled from India on July 1,2016 and did not return to India to despite thrice notices, issued by the NIA, asking him to join the investigation.
The 51-year-old Islamic preacher is being probed under terror and money laundering charges by the NIA. He fled from India after terrorists caught in 2016 in neighbouring Bangladesh claimed that they were inspired by his speeches. The NIA had registered a case against Naik at its Mumbai office on November18,2016 under various sections of Indian penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. (UNI)
