NIA recovers incriminating books & pamphlets related to ISIS in Madurai

New Delhi:The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday said that it has conducted raids at four places in Madurai District in Tamil Nadu in connection with a case relating to the incriminating social media post by an extremist Md Iqbal, advocating ideology of Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS) and a proscribed organisation Hizb- Ut- Tahrir.
The searches were conducted at Kazimar Street, K Pudur, Pethaniyapuram and Mehaboob Palayam in Madurai and during the search, 16 digital devices including Laptop, Hard Disks, Mobile Phones, Memory cards, SIMs, Pen drive and many incriminating books / pamphlets / documents have been recovered.
 
Md Iqbal aka Senthil Kumar, a resident of Kazimar, Street in Madurai, was arrested on December 2, last year and has been under judicial custody since then.The case was originally registered at PS Thideer, Madurai relating to uploading of some incriminating posts on Facebook.
 
The NIA, after taking over this case, had re-registered the case on April 15 this year started investigation.The officials in the anti- terror probe agency has revealed that the posts on the Facebook page “Thoonga Vizhigal Rendu was in Kazimar Street" was uploaded by accused MdIqbal for denigrating a particular community.
 
“The posts were designed to incite communal disharmony amongst different religious groups in a manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order”, the officials said. Further investigation in the case has been under progress, the NIA said.(UNI)
