New Delhi: The Congress today said that not much political meaning should be read into party vice-president Rahul Gandhi's visit to temples in Gujarat while campaigning for the state Assembly elections. Talking to reporters here, AICC senior spokesperson and former finance Minister P Chidambaram, when asked about Rahul visiting temples in Gujarat during his visit to the state, said,'No political meaning should be read into Mr Rahul Gandhi's visit to the temples in Gujarat.

In course of one's visit to a place, one often visits temples or churches.' Dismissing suggestions that it was an attempt to appease Hindu voters, Mr Chidambaram said,'We have always maintained that all the faiths should be treated as equal.' Mr Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to Gujarat in course of his campaigning for the forthcoming state Assembly elections, has been visiting various temples in the state. While the Congress vice-president began his Navsarjan Yatra in Gujarat with darshan at Dwarkadhish temple on September 25, he today visited Chamunda Mataji temple in Chotila. (UNI)
