Kalimpong: Union Home Minister Amit Shah here on Monday said not even a single person from Gorkha community will be affected if National Register of Citizens (NRC) is conducted.
Addressing a public meeting here, Mr Shah said, “misinformation being spread that if NRC will be conducted and Gorkhas will be ousted.”
He said NRC hasn’t been conducted yet. “But even if it’s conducted, not even one Gorkha will be ousted. TMC has been lying,” he stated.
Mr Shah promised to send those behind the killings of Gorkhas to jail once voted to power. He claimed that Kalimpong had suffered for years.
“In 1986, CPI(M) oppressed you and over 1,200 Gorkhas lost lives. You were not given justice. When Didi [Mamata Banerjee] came, she did nothing and you were never given justice,” he said.
“Choose the BJP this time and we’ll form an SIT and send those responsible behind bars,” Mr Shah urged.
Earlier the Union Home Minister held a roadshow here ahead of the fifth phase of the polls. (UNI)
