Kendrapada: The Pattamundai Rural police have arrested a sexagenarian person on the charge of allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl, Pattamundai SDPO Khyamasagar Panda said.
According to the SDPO, the accused, identified as Batakrushna Sahoo (65), a neighbour of the victim, was arrested on Saturday.
Accused Sahoo allegedly raped the minor girl while she was alone in her house.
He also assaulted the girl resulting in injuries on her cheeks, shoulder and on other parts of the body.
He threatened the girl not to disclose the matter to anybody, else she would face dire consequences, stated the victim’s mother in her FIR (first information report).
Acting on the FIR, the Pattamundai Rural police registered a case under various section of BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
He has reportedly confessed his crime to the police.
He was produced before a local court, which sent him to judicial custody, stated Panda.
