New Delhi: Charging BJP president Amit Shah and other party leaders of using Demonetisation for converting their black money into 'white' by depositing Rs 3118 cr worth of old notes in 11 district cooperative banks in Gujarat in five days, the Congress on Friday demanded a time bound comprehensive probe into the matter by the Government.
Talking to reporters here, AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala said,''19 months post 'Modi Made Disaster' of Demonetisation, it is now officially clear that this entire exercise was the Biggest Scam in Independent India, indulged to convert its ill-gotten 'Black Money' into 'White'
An RTI Reply dated May 7, 2018 as shockingly revealed that Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank (ADCB), whose directors include BJP's National President, Amit Shah (who is also its past chairman) and his close associates received, the highest amount of old demonetized notes i.e. a whopping Rs 745 Cr in just 5 days between 10.11.2016 to 14.11.2016.
Infact, 11 District Co-operative Banks in Gujarat headed by BJP leaders saw Rs 3118.51 Cr worth of old notes being deposited within these 5 days. It is time for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP president to give answers in this regard. We demand a time bound probe into the matter by the Government.''Mr Surjewala said that the RTI also revealed that the entire exercise of Demonetisation was meant to benefit a select group of BJP cronies.
''States ruled by BJP and its allies/supporters got the largest proportion of deposits in the district Co-Operative Banks i.e Rs 14293.71Cr out of Rs 22270.80 Cr (64.18 per cent), compared to non-BJP ruled states at the time of Demonetisation,'' Mr Surjewala said.
''Let Mr Amit Shah/BJP/RSS publicly disclose to the Nation, properties and their value purchased in the run up to and post Demonetisation till date, including source of funds,'' Mr Surjewala said.
