Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) last night came to know that the group of Rohingyas are trying to enter Bangladesh through the Ukhiya border, said Commanding Officer of BGB-32 battalion Lt Col Ali Haider Azad Ahmed while talking to reporters.
BGB members remained alert on Anjumanpara border and reinforced their patrolling on the bordering areas so no one can illegally enter Bangladesh, he added.
Meanwhile, Cox's Bazar locals have gathered at several points of the Ukhiya and Teknaf border in Cox's Bazar since last night after receiving information of the Rohingya group trying to enter trying Bangladesh.
The Rohingyas gathered in the bordering village Naichadong in Myanmar territory in a bid to cross the border, A reporter from Cox's Bazar reports quoting the villagers.
Palongkhali Union Parishad Chairman M Gafur Uddin Chowdhury said some Bangladeshi fishermen saw several hundred Rohingyas waiting inside Myanmar territory last night, across the border opposite Anjuman para under Palongkhali Union.
On information, several hundred people started guarding the border area against 2200 hrs this night so that the Rohingyas cannot enter Cox's Bazar, he said.Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saiful Islam Saif said they will take necessary steps in this regard.(UNI)
