In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl was beaten to death by her father, a school headmaster, after she failed to secure good marks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in Sangli district of Maharashtra. Based on a complaint by the girl's mother, the accused was arrested.
The incident took place in Nelkaranji village in Atpadi tehsil on Saturday night and the deceased was identified as Sadhana Bhosale, a Class 12 student.
Sadhana’s father Dhondiram Bhosale, 45, was upset with her for scoring low marks in the test, which led to an argument between the two.
As per the reports, when Dhondiram asked Sadhana about her poor performance, her answer enraged him. The teen had asked, “Papa, which collector did you become? You also had low marks.”
Following this, Dhondiram grabbed the wooden handle of a stone grinder and attacked Sadhana with it in the presence of his wife and son.
As per reports, Dhondiram kept beating her mercilessly for the whole night. Sadhana was seriously injured, but Dhondiram did not take her to the hospital. Instead, he went to attend a Yoga Day program the next morning. When he returned, he saw that Sadhana was lying unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital, but she died before treatment could begin.
"The teen was rushed to a hospital in Sangli, where she died during treatment. The post-mortem report revealed that she died of multiple injuries," senior inspector Vinay Bahir of Atpadi police station said.
