Dera Baba Nanak:Opening a new vista in people-to-people relations between two Asian neighbours - India and Pakistan - Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Kartarpur corridor here and flagged off the first batch of around 550 pilgrims.
The 4.2 km-long corridor from the Indian side has come up in connection with celebrations to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of Sikhism.

The Prime Minister flagged off the first batch of pilgrims led by Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

Addressing a gathering in presence of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Akali Dal stalwart Parkash Singh Badal at Shikhar Masiahan, Mr Modi thanked his Pakistan counterpart Imran Khan and faceless workers of Pakistan who worked tirelessly at a fast pace to build the corridor.

"I want to thank the workers of Pakistan .....," Mr Modi said and also lauded Imran Khan's role in the entire endeavour.

"I thank Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan Mianji. He understood the feelings of thousands of Indians on the Kartarpur corridor issue, gave respect and took up the project accordingly," the Prime Minister said.(UNI)
