Handloom a major tool in transforming poor people's lives: PM

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said handloom sector is fast emerging a game-changer in socio-economic front and the traditional Khadi will soon turn into an instrument of 'transformation'.

"Once Khadi was known more as a symbol of nationhood, then it turned into a symbol of fashion; but today we are in a situation wherein Khadi is For Transformation," the Prime Minister said in his monthly radio programme Mann-Ki-Baat. Handloom sector can play a major role in bringing "transformation" in the lives of poor people, he said. The Prime Minister also lauded Indian armed forces personnel for their role in UN Peace Keeping. Mr Modi also expressed concern on growing instances of diabetes among children and said this is related to changing lifestyle. (UNI)
