PM Modi, Stalin, Union Sports Minister, Vishy Anand lauds Indian gold medal winning show in Chess Olympiad

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin Union Sports Minister and Chess legend Vishy Anand lauded Team India for winning two golds at the FIDE Chess Olympiad at Budapest and termed it as an historic achievement.

The women's team won for the first time.

Mr Modi termed the achievement marked a new chapter in India's sports trajectory and would inspire generations of chess enthusiasts to excel.

A release from PIB said, Mr Modi lauded the Indian contingent for winning Gold in both open and women’s category at 45th Chess Olympiad.

He congratulated the incredible Men's and Women's Chess teams for their remarkable achievement.

The PM in a message on X said "“Historic win for India as our chess contingent wins the 45th #FIDE Chess Olympiad!".

"India has won the Gold in both open and women’s category at /Chess Olympiad!", he said.

"Congratulations to our incredible Men's and Women's Chess Teams. This remarkable achievement marks a new chapter in India's sports trajectory. May this success inspire generations of chess enthusiasts to excel in the game.”



In his message, Mr Stalin said "India continues to rise and shine!".

"From our remarkable hosting of the Chess Olympiad in Chennai to now claiming gold in both the men’s and women’s categories at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad Budapest 2024, what a journey!", he said.

"It’s heartwarming to witness the relentless dedication of our chess champions, pushing boundaries and bringing glory to the nation on the global stage", Mr Stalin said.



"Congratulations, Team India, on this historic achievement!", he added.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and Vishy Anand also lauded the remarkable achievements of the Indian team.



Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also lauded the team for its creditable and historic feat.
