Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the phone to review the evolving regional situation, voicing India’s concern over recent developments and stressing the need to safeguard civilian lives.
In a post on X, Modi said he discussed the current scenario with Netanyahu and conveyed India’s concerns, emphasising that protecting civilians must remain the top priority. He also reiterated India’s call for an early cessation of hostilities.
The conversation comes against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the region, with continued hostilities fuelling fears of a wider conflict. While the Prime Minister did not detail the specific issues discussed, India has consistently urged restraint and dialogue during periods of instability in West Asia.
Government sources indicated that New Delhi’s stance continues to be guided by its long-standing commitment to peace, stability and civilian protection. A senior official noted that India believes differences should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, adding that the safety and security of civilians must remain paramount.
India has traditionally backed efforts aimed at achieving negotiated and peaceful resolutions to conflicts in the region.
Modi’s outreach to Netanyahu highlights India’s active diplomatic engagement with key stakeholders as it closely monitors the rapidly changing situation. Observers say India’s emphasis on civilian safety and a swift end to hostilities reflects its broader foreign policy approach — maintaining strategic partnerships while consistently advocating peace and de-escalation.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore New Delhi’s concern over the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict and reinforce its appeal for an early end to the violence.
