Police said among the seven children attacked with a sharp-edged weapon, the condition of three were stated to be critical.
According to the incident, Munshi Yadav (42), a police constable was transferred to Fatehpur from Prayagraj in January and was on medical leave since January 5.
On the night of Friday, he had some dispute with his wife Reena(38) due to which Munshi attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon.
Their seven children Neha(16), Ritu(13) Nitu(10), Varsha(8), Sudha(6), Krishna (4) and Shyam( 2) were also attacked by their father.
While mother Reena succumbed to her injuries, three children-- Sudha, Krishna and Shyam-- were also battling for their lives in the district hospital.
When villagers rushed to the house along with the family of the elder brother of the accused, Munshi fled away and jumped before a train at the Kakrahi Dera area and died on the spot.
