Politicians greet armed forces on Army Day

Panaji:Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday greeted Army personnel on the occasion of Indian Army Day.
In a tweet, the Chief Minister said,'Indian Army Day gives an opportunity for all of us to express our gratitude, our admiration, and our support to the men and women in uniform for their dedication, bravery and sacrifice for the nation.''I salute our fearless and selfless heroes on the occasion of #IndianArmyDay,' he said.

Kolkata:Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar today greeted the armed forces on the occasion of Army Day.'Greetings #ArmyDay. We remember bravehearts who made supreme sacrifice for nation. Salutations to committed soldiers, veterans & their families,' he tweeted.
 
'Army Day is celebrated in recognition of Field Marshal Cariappa, then a Lt Gen,taking over as the first C-in-C on 15 Jan 1949,' Mr Dhankhar said.

Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year in India, in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa's (then a Lieutenant General) taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on January 15,1949.
